SAXON Crown Swimming Club won the final gala of the Kent junior league season to secure top spot and gain promotion to the second division.

This is the second time in three seasons Saxon Crown swimmers have been promoted.

Mayor of Lewisham and patron of Saxon Crown Sir Steve Bullock said: “This is a fantastic win and a phenomenal success.

“Victories like this don’t happen without a lot of hard work and dedication.

They’ve done Lewisham proud.”

Saxon Crown swimmers have won all three galas this season, including Saturday’s by an impressive 37 points from closest rivals Margate SC.

Sian Benmhamedi, 12, secured three of Saxon Crown’s 18 first places, winning the 100m Breaststroke by eight seconds in a time of 1m26.78s.

Other victories came from Joel Levine, Jordan Smith, Drew Macdonald, Amy Lewis, Greta Sharp, Erin O’Hara, as well as relay teams.

Head development coach Tony Bagnall said: “I am extremely proud of all the swimmers in the team.

“To get promoted for the second time in three years is an amazing achievement, especially as they did it so convincingly.”

Meanwhile, Saxon Crown’s senior swimmers face a challenging gala in the forthcoming final round of the national arena swimming league, where they hope to repeat the success of the juniors and win promotion.

Saxon Crown Swimming Club has sessions at Ladywell, Downham and Wavelengths Leisure Centres.
