Competitive Squad (Max 24 swimmers)

Aims:

This group is aimed at swimmers who are looking to gain training and competitive experience in longer events such as 100 and 200 metre events as advised by coaches. Strokes are still being developed to a more advanced level, however, swimmers should be able to swim the four competitive strokes, starts and turns at legal standard.

Abilities:

Able to swim 2500 metres training session (with intervals between sets);

Able to dive as specified above under specific criteria heading;

Able to start, turn and finish as specified above under specific criteria;

To demonstrate stamina and endurance levels for 800 metres + training sessions;

To show a willingness to learn;

Able to carry out instructions issued by the coach;

Swimmers who wish to join Competitive Squad must have a tracked record via the Swim England website of personal bests in competitions and team events.

Attendance:

Swimming is mainly a technical sport based on aerobic energy system, both hard to gain and easy to lose. Therefore swimmers should attend training regularly and consistently in order to maintain and improve. Swimmers should attend all 5 swim sessions per week with a minimum of 4 sessions per week on a regular basis.

Swimmers will be required to enter competitions, race nights and club championship at least once per month according to the fixtures list and attend team events when selected.         

Working Towards:

Maintenance of technical performance and an understanding of the given sets without interruptions over a two-hour session.

Use of and understanding of injury prevention band training and mobility at home.

An understanding of the importance of hydration and nutrition strategies.

Gain experience and confidence at competitions.

  • Swimming hat + spare;
  • Swimming goggles + spare;
  • Water bottle;
  • Kick board;
  • Pull buoy;
  • Short fins;
  • Paddles.
